Programs

We believe that fitness should be a big part of an individual’s lifestyle due to the major health and mental benefits. At Cheung Do Kwan, we create our programs flexibly and do our best to always create new teaching programs to keep our students focused and engaged helping them continue their fitness journey.

In addition, our programs always focus on Respect and Detail. We guide students with detailed instructions on how to perform the techniques correctly so as to develop correct habits from the start of the journey. Also, our team consists of National Team players, thus we strive to bring out the best in students. We have already numerous students who have joined the HK National Team.

Ages 3 – 5

Our ages 3 – 5 Program is designed to help students improve their focus, listening and self-control. We believe that starting good habits early will lead to more confident and strong minded students. We start classes by bowing to show respect followed by warmup exercises that our young ones can follow, we then teach them the purpose of Martial Arts and the value of respect (e.g. such as bowing, giving with two hands & learning to say Sir/Ma’am). Our 3 – 5 Program then focuses on self-control, learning to sit properly and learning to stand still and focus.

Ages 6 – 9

Our 6 – 9 Program is designed to improve students fitness by doing more cardiovascular and strength training. We will also give them suitable challenges as to help them boost their confidence at these important years. Lastly, as their communication skills are higher, we will teach the value of Respect as well as detailed instructions on Taekwondo techniques.

Ages 9 – 13

We put fitness highly for health and mental benefits as students start to focus on their studies. We also train students leadership skills by letting them teach lower belt students as by this age we start to have more Black Belt students. Finally, we do our best to guide students in the correct path as they face more challenges and important life decisions.

TEEN & ADULTS

The Program is designed to help students get a great workout and improved flexibility. Students will get a good cardiovascular and strength workout by doing various kicking and stepping exercises We focus on detailed explanation of Taekwondo skills and their concepts.

SPARRING

We believe that learning sparring is ESSENTIAL to learning self-defense, as through sparring student’s learn how to apply their knowledge in a more practical environment. Student’s learn the importance of timing, distance and accuracy. Without sparring students will not be able to fully utilize their basic skills. We understand that sparring can be scary, thus we prepare students in slowly step by step approach. Students all wear protective guards and is professionally and safely coached by our Masters.

TRICKING

Students learn the fundamentals of acrobatic kicks and high level spinning kicks such as aerial kicks and 540 degree Hook Kicks, thus this program is recommended for higher belt level students such as Green Belts and above.

POOMSAE

Our Poomsae classes (Forms), focus on competition. Students train to perform their kicks cleaner and higher as well as improved stance and stance transitions. Students will also learn to control their muscle tension as to display better contrast in power when performing Poomsae.

FREESTYLE POOMSAE

Freestyle Poomsae are taekwondo forms designed by a taekwondo practitioner typically for use in competitions or demonstrations.  The idea is that these freestyle competitions allow practitioners to showcase advanced techniques (such as highly acrobatic kicks, as just one example) that are not normally part of the standard curriculum of forms. We recommended students Green Belt and above for this advanced program.

DEMO TEAM

Demo Team classes are only for students who are handpicked by the our Masters. It is an elite team of students dedicated in showcasing their skills and techniques to a live audience. Students will master the art of wood breaking as well as understanding the routine of how a demonstration is operated.
